1. Enroll in a 63-Hour FREC-Approved Pre-Licensing Course

The Florida Real Estate Commission (FREC) mandates the successful completion of a 63-hour pre-licensing course through an approved Florida real estate school. This course is available online or in a classroom setting, designed to equip you with the knowledge needed to pass your exams and provide valuable insights for your new real estate career.

How Long to Complete the Pre-Licensing Course?

Even though the Florida Real Estate Commission (FREC) mandates a "63-hour" pre-licensing course, many students find that they can complete the required material in a shorter timeframe due to the flexibility of the course structure. This program is designed to accommodate different learning styles, allowing students to work at their own pace or choose a set schedule that fits their personal commitments. Whether you prefer to dive deep into the material and finish quickly or take your time to absorb the concepts thoroughly, this course offers the adaptability needed to succeed in your real estate journey.

2. Real Estate License Fingerprinting Requirements

The Florida Real Estate Commission (FREC) mandates FDLE and FBI background checks for all license applicants. As part of this process, you must have your fingerprints taken.

Where Can Fingerprints Be Taken?

Electronic fingerprinting is available at our classroom locations on specific days, scheduled before or after classes. Learn more and schedule a fingerprinting appointment.

Fingerprinting Kit - Required for Out-of-State

Out-of-state applicants can order a fingerprint kit for mail-in processing. The kit includes everything needed to get your fingerprints rolled. Find out more and order a fingerprinting kit.

Can You Get a Florida Real Estate License with a Felony?

It is possible to earn a license with a criminal background. The FREC reviews each case individually to decide on approvals. You must submit supporting documentation regarding any charges with your application. Note that a criminal background might extend the application process up to 90 days. Explore more about becoming a real estate agent with a criminal background.

Can You Reuse Previous Fingerprints?

Per DBPR regulations, you cannot reuse previous fingerprints for your license application. Each application requires new fingerprints to ensure compliance with the background check process.

3. Filing Your Florida Real Estate License Application

To become a real estate licensee in Florida, you must file an application with the Florida Department of Business & Professional Regulation (DBPR).

When Should You File the Application?

File your application as soon as possible. You don't need to be enrolled in the course to submit it. Ensure it's approved and your exam is scheduled by the time you complete your course to take the state exam with minimal delay. Any waiting period after the course could lead to forgetting crucial information.

How to File a Real Estate License Application?

Submit your application to the Florida DBPR either electronically or by mail. For a quicker response, we recommend filing electronically through the DBPR website. This ensures a smoother and faster process, allowing you to proceed to the exam scheduling phase promptly.

4. Scheduling Your Florida Real Estate License State Exam

When Can I Schedule My State Exam?

You can schedule your state exam once you receive approval from the Department of Business and Professional Regulation (DBPR). This approval requires the submission of your fingerprints and application. It's possible to schedule your exam even before completing your course. However, you must pass the end of course exam and obtain your completion certificate before you take the state exam.

How Long Does It Take for My Real Estate License Application to Be Approved?

Approval for your real estate license application generally takes about a week after both your fingerprints and application are submitted. The timeframe can extend up to 90 days if you have a criminal background, have held a license in another state, or if the DBPR is experiencing a high volume of applications.

What Happens After My DBPR Application is Approved?

Once your DBPR application is approved, you can move forward with scheduling your state exam. You will receive an email from Pearson VUE with your FLREAPP number, which is essential for Pearson VUE exam scheduling. This number allows you to book your exam at a convenient date and time, ensuring you're well-prepared for the next steps in your real estate career.

5. Pass the Sales Associate End of Course Exam

To qualify for the Florida real estate license state exam, you must first pass the end of course exam. Achieving a score of 70% or higher is necessary, which means correctly answering at least 70 out of 100 multiple-choice questions.

How Many Questions Are on the End of Course Exam?

The end of course exam features 100 multiple-choice questions, with options labeled A, B, C, and D.

What Score Do I Need to Pass the End of Course Exam?

To successfully pass the exam, you must score at least 70%, equating to 70 correctly answered questions out of 100.

How Long Do I Have to Complete the End of Course Exam?

You are allotted up to three (3) hours to finish the exam. The exam must be completed in one sitting, as pausing or restarting is not permitted.

Are There Math Questions on the Exam?

Yes, the exam includes approximately 10 real estate math questions. While you could miss all these and still score 90%, practicing these questions can make them easy points to earn.

Do I Need to Schedule the End of Course Exam?

No scheduling is necessary for the end of course exam. For classroom courses, the exam is conducted on the final day. For online courses, you can begin the exam after completing all course units.

What If I Fail the End of Course Exam?

Failing to achieve a 70% means you must wait 30 days to retake a different version of the exam, as per FREC rules. If unsuccessful on the second attempt, you must retake the course. With our 1-Year Retake Guarantee, you can retake the course within one year without additional fees, subject to space availability.

Are There Study Tools for the End of Course Exam?

Yes, additional study tools are available to boost your exam preparedness. We recommend using our Pass First Try Strategy, designed to streamline your study process and enhance your chances of passing both class and state exams on the first try. Explore more about our recommended strategies to optimize your real estate exam preparation.

6. Pass the Florida Real Estate Sales Associate State Exam

Do I Need to Schedule My Florida Real Estate Exam?

What Happens If I Fail the Florida Real Estate Exam?

If you do not pass the exam, you can reschedule and retake it without a mandatory waiting period. Analyze your exam results to identify areas for improvement before your next attempt.

Is It Beneficial to Pay for an Exam Review?

While Pearson VUE offers a paid review of your most recent exam attempt, this is generally not recommended. The exam draws from a vast pool of questions, making repeated questions unlikely in subsequent attempts.

How Difficult is the Florida Real Estate Exam?

The pass rate for first-time test takers in Florida is typically around 50%. It assesses your retention and understanding of key real estate concepts rather than intelligence, with distractors designed to test your comprehensive knowledge.

Are There Study Tools to Help Me Pass the Real Estate Exam?

Yes, Tampa School of Real Estate offers an array of study tools to enhance your preparation. We suggest utilizing our Pass First Try Strategy, designed to help you succeed on both your class and state exams on the first attempt.
